Bill Pay Data Roaming Cap

 

What is the Bill Pay Data Roaming Cap? 

The spend caps on data roaming offers you control over data roaming charges by capping your data spend on your Three mobile service.  

 

This ensures that you can avoid a data roaming bill that is higher than you expect. You can decide if you want to spend more than the values of the caps.

 

The first cap has its default value set at €50 (excluding VAT)* for each billing period. The second cap has its default value set at €100 (excluding VAT)* for the billing period.  

*€61.50 incl. VAT. €123 incl. VAT.  

 

To temporarily remove the data roaming cap for the billing period 

Text "REMCAP" to 50232 

To permanently remove the cap*  

Text "PERMCAP" to 50232 

To apply €50 (ex. VAT) data roaming cap 

Text "GETCAP" to 50232 

To apply custom data roaming cap** 

Text "GETCAP <AMOUNT>" to 50232 

 

Note: The value of the second cap will always be €50 (excluding VAT) more than the value of the first cap.  

 

* WARNING Please be advised that the cap will be removed for all future use. By doing so, you will be liable for any additional roaming charges. The customer will need to reinstate a cap if they wish to have one in place. 

** The amount chosen will be exclusive of VAT. For example, if you insert the amount of €60, you will be billed for €73.8 (€60 x 1.23). To calculate the right amount to choose, please divide the amount you wish to be billed by 1.23.

How does the spend cap work?

When you use data on your phone, smartphone, or mobile broadband (browsing the internet, email, using mobile apps), we will keep a count of your spend. When we see that you have used 80% of the allowance that comes with your plan, we will send you an SMS notification to let you know. Note: if you have switched off your notifications, you will not receive this alert. Your service will not be capped at this stage. 

When you have reached your first data cap limit (default value of €50 excl. VAT or custom value applied), you will receive further notification by SMS that your data access will be suspended. This notification includes details on how to continue using data services. 

If you choose to continue using data, you will receive a similar SMS notification when you have reached your second data cap. At this point, if you choose to continue using data, you will be charged the default rate unless you have a data roaming bundle on your account. 

If you are a Mobile Broadband customer, the notifications will be in the connection manager on your mobile broadband software.

If you decide not to extend past the spend caps, then data is restricted until it resets at the start of your next bill cycle. 

If you text “REMCAP” to temporarily remove the caps, they will be reset at the start of your next bill cycle. 

If you text “PERMCAP” to permanently remove the cap, then no cap will be applied in the future unless you specifically request to have the cap reinstated, by texting “GETCAP” to 50232.

What if I want to continue using data?

If you decide that you want to continue using data, you will need to free-text REMCAP to 50232. When you do so for the first cap, your second cap will remain in place, and you will receive further cap notifications.  

Please note that when you do this for the second cap, you will not receive any further spend caps or notifications on your current bill cycle. 

Once you enter a new billing cycle, spend caps and notifications will recommence and you will need to text REMCAP to 50232 again to remove these.  

If you decide that you want to continue using data, you will be charged the default rate unless you have a data roaming bundle on your account.

The data roaming spend caps apply globally, so data usage inside and outside the EU will have the facility.

There is no cost for the spend cap facility and it is automatically applied to your service. You can add or remove the cap without condition or restriction.

You can choose to permanently remove the spend caps facility by texting PERMCAP to 50232. 

If you choose to remove the facility, you will not receive further notifications or capping. We generally recommend that you keep the spend cap in place to avoid incurring unexpected, uncontrolled/automatic downloads or inadvertent data roaming charges.  

At any time, you can choose to reinstate the cap free of charge without condition or restriction by texting GETCAP to 50232. 

You can also opt out of notification messages by texting NOROAMALERT to 50232. You can turn notification messages back on at any time by texting ROAMALERT to 50232.
