Data Roaming Charges
Data roaming is the term we use when you browse the internet on your phone while abroad. You use data every time you use the internet on your phone – whether you’re checking email, browsing Instagram or streaming music.
When you go abroad, you will receive a text from Three informing you how much it will cost to use data, call or text in that country.
All customers can use Data Roaming Caps to make sure they aren't charged more than they expect.

Data Roaming in the EU
Most of our plans include an EU data allowance. For example, our €20 prepay plan includes 21GB EU roaming allowance. If you’re not sure how much your plan includes, you can check your roaming allowance on your My3 account, listed with your other allowances. For more details on EU roaming and a full list of which countries, you can use your EU data allowance in, check out three.ie/roaming.
- When the Data Cap is on your number, your usage will appear as EU Data Cap on your bill or call history.
- When the Data Cap is not on your number, your usage will appear as EU Data Roaming on your bill or call history.
- If you have a data roaming bundle, your usage will appear as Data Roaming on your bill or call history.

Maritime (At Sea) and In-Flight Roaming
When roaming at sea or in flight, you are roaming on a satellite network. While roaming on these networks, we will notify you of your rates to make a call, send an SMS or use data. It’s important to know that if you are on a ship/flight within the EU region, this is not part of EU roaming regulation.
If you are a Business customer, your plan may have more options available to you for roaming. Please speak to your account contact for more information.
