This week Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) took place, and Apple made some seriously exciting announcements. Here’s our top five:

iOS 11 is coming

Described by Apple as ‘a giant step for iPhone, a monumental leap for iPad’, iOS 11 is coming to your Apple devices this autumn. iOS 10 brought some exciting changes to Apple’s operating system back in 2016, but Apple is moving onwards and upwards with iOS 11.

iOS 11 will mean users can now keep files all in one place, drag and drop files and photos, pay friends through iMessage, automatically sense driving, take live photos and much more. For the full low down on iOS 11, see here.

Apple introduces AR

One of the most innovative new features of iOS 11 is ARKit, which will bring Augmented Reality (AR) apps and games to Apple devices. This is the first time Apple have announced an AR platform for developers, hot on the heels of Facebook and Google. ARKit will take apps beyond the screen, blending digital objects and information with the environment around you.

It’ll be interesting to see where Apple goes with this, as it could potentially lead the way for VR features too.

iMac Pro announced

Apple announced the most powerful Mac ever this week, the iMac Pro, which will be released in December.

The iMac Pro will have an amazing 18 cores, as well as Turbo Boost speeds up to 4.5GHz, allowing the computer to balance incredible multicore processing with excellent performance. The iMac Pro will also have more memory (up to 128 GB) and a 5K 27” display with AMD Radeon Vega graphics. It’ll also feature a 10GB Ethernet, meaning sharing files will be up to 10 times faster.

So yeah, it’s a big deal.

New home assistant, HomePod, introduced

Designed to rival Amazon’s Echo and Google Home, Apple announced HomePod, a smart home assistant with a powerful speaker, controlled through voice interaction with Siri. As well as playing Apple Music and sensing where it is in the room for an optimised listening experience, HomePod will also help with everyday household questions and control your smart home accessories.

Like the iMac Pro, HomePod will be released in December.

Two new iPad Pro’s released

Apple also announced two new iPad Pro’s, which are both available for order immediately. The new iPad’s will be available in 10.5” and 12.9” models, with the 12.9” accommodating a full-size keyboard.

Apple claims the iPad Pro will now offer more power than most PC laptops and will have a redesigned Retina display and a 120Hz refresh rate, so your photos, videos and games will look incredible. For full specifications and to purchase the new iPad Pro now, see here.
