Broadband change over

Hi. I realised on Tuesday that my current plan usage had gone way over the limity. Online I changed my plan. I have now been told that if I use my broadband before the 28th I will be charged on my old plan at the out of plan charges as my billing date is 27th of the month. Is this correct. I currently have no broadband as I am waiting on a new sim to arrive.
