There are many reasons why regularly backing up your phone is important, such as:
Keeping your data safe – if you accidentally break or lose your phone, you could lose your precious data forever!
Preparing for a new phone – if you’re buying a new phone, you can easily transfer files from one phone to another, if you’ve backed it up.
Preparing to repair your phone – if you’re sending your phone off for repair it’s recommended to back it up, as the repair team will reset your phone to factory settings. For more info on repairing your phone, seeHow To: Repair your Phone with Three.
There are a few easy ways to back up the important data on your phone, such as your photos, videos, music, and files.
The most popular way to back up your data is to use a cloud storage app, such asGoogle DriveorDropbox, which allows users to upload vast amounts of files and store them safely. If you have an iPhone, you can back up your data toiCloud, Apple’s cloud storage service.
If it's photos, in particular, you’re looking to back up,Google Photosis very handy. It can back up all your photos automatically, so you never have to worry about losing any precious moments. It also offers unlimited storage for normal size photos.
If you’d rather transfer your data to a piece of hardware, there are a few options for manually backing up your phone. You can simply connect your smartphone to your laptop or PC using a USB cable, and transfer all data to your computer or external hard drive.
Alternatively, if your smartphone comes with MicroSD storage (most of the latest Android models do), you can save your data to a MicroSD card.
If you have an iPhone and a computer, iTunes is a really great way to back up your device. iTunes offers the option of backing up your entire device (from photos to music to contacts to apps) to iTunes, meaning no matter what happens to your phone you won’t lose a thing. Simply connect your iPhone to your laptop or PC using the USB cable, open iTunes, and click the option 'Manually Back Up and Restore'.
