Re: Repeatedly charged for data despite mobile data turned o

Hi, I am having exactly the same issue. I am not using my mobile data and I've been charged twice.

Re: Repeatedly charged for data despite mobile data turned o

Believe me - when u discuss ur problem with 3 they will insist that
definitely can't happen. Unfortunately u'll be charged regularly until ur
credit is gone & when u top-up twill start again! I had numerous lengthy
discussions with 3 people. One of my discussions lasted 1.5hrs one evening.
I was determined I wasn't giving up cause I was just tired of being charged
when data turned off. They were adamant this couldn't happen. I kept
insisting i was telling the truth. What annoyed me most was they were so
adamant this couldn't happen & pretended to never have heard of the
problem. I eventually agreed to let them turn data off & if I require it
the idea is I text to get it turned on. So far I havent done that.
Good luck with 3 & if u have better success do please let us know.

Hi Rose,

I spoke with a guy who actually explained what happened to me and it was to do with MMS messages. I sent one yesterday afternoon and got charged despite being on my home WiFi. He told me that even if you are on your own WiFi MMS messages are sent via the Three network so that's why I was charged. I have one person who does not have WhatsApp and I sent them a photograph.

At least I will know in the future.

Interesting! Wait & see if that's right. I got alot of different
explanations too!!

Re: Repeatedly charged for data despite mobile data turned o

@Three Rachel mentioned that as well in her answer, I think. Long messages or MMS

Re: Repeatedly charged for data despite mobile data turned o

This has just happened to me too and I have an antique Nokia phone that is unable to send or receive data, so the excuse thay are giving other customers just doesn't stack up. My phone never has and never will need data. This is theft plain and simple, they took €2 off me without my knowledge or permission. I would've never found out unless my wife flagged it up and made me go through my credit useage online.

I complained to their online chat advisors and they blocked all data useage and refunded me the €2, which is fair enough, but I wonder how many other €2's I lost? I was never asked if I wanted to subscribe to data services at €2 a pop and I certainly never agreed to Three to just helping themselves to my credit. I only spend about €20 every two months so can ill afford to lose 10% of that for a non-existant service. I would imagine that blocking all data will not be an ideal solution for most smart phone users though.

@AlanMcCormack Sorry to hear this. If you have a SIM which is 3G capable then it has that capability to connect to data.

If anyone wants me to check their account and/or block the data from the account, send me a PM and I'll help.

Thanks'

Re: Repeatedly charged for data despite mobile data turned o

I think a complaint needs to be made to comreg, surely taking money from customers surreptitiously is illegal, or at the very least sneaky and underhanded and needs to to be publicised more widely.

Re: Repeatedly charged for data despite mobile data turned o

@AlanMcCormack I don't think it sounds like it's sneaky. If the Sim connects to the data then there is a charge of €2 per 200mb If it doesn't connect then €2 isn't taken and Three_Rachel has offered to remove the data for anyone that is not interested in having it on their account. Thats open to all people that request it but the charge is there whether it is purposeful or accidental. They have an article about the charge here which is open for all to see so again I don't believe it is a sneaky thing - €2 Charge Thats just my opinion and I have been charged the €2 rate before when I sent an MMS.

Chilli pepper - I note u state that's only Ur opinion - I'm glad - cause
it's worth nothing. Are u a person who has an opinion on everything even
if u don't understand the problem?
