Plan Activation
Many of our Prepay plans require a top up to activate your plan benefits. For example, if you have moved to our Three Total Talker Plan, a €20 top up is required to activate your plan benefits (unlimited texts, unlimited minutes, and more!).
For example: If you top up by €20, your account will be debited €20 to activate your plan. Your balance will then be €0. If you still require credit on your account for additional usage (e.g. 3Pay services or roaming) we recommend topping up by less than your plan activation amount (e.g. €5/10/15).
Please note: if you top up by €20 before 28 days is up, your plan will re-activate, and your remaining allowances at the time of top-up will not carry forward.
Out of Bundle Usage
Recurring Add-Ons and Boosters
If you have a recurring add-on or booster, this will reapply each month, and the charge will be taken from your credit. We will text you beforehand to let you know that the cost will be taken from your credit.
3Pay Purchases
3Pay is becoming increasingly popular. Among other things, you can now purchase apps and subscriptions via the App Store and Play Store and pay with your credit card. Click here to read our blog about purchases with 3Pay, and be sure to keep track of your purchases on My3!
Data Charges
You may be charged for data use if a) your All You Can Eat data plan has expired and you have not topped up to re-activate your plan, or b) if you have used up your data allowance (this applies to prepay plans without All You Can Eat data).
For information on data pricing, visit three.ie/legal/pricing and select your plan for pricing information.
Roaming and International Charges
If you are using your phone outside Ireland, you may be charged for calls, texts and data. Check out three.ie/roaming for more info on roaming charges.
Similarly, if you use your phone to call or text a non-Irish number, you may be charged for these calls and texts depending on your plan.
Premium Rate Services
Premium rate services are any calls or texts from private companies which cost more than the standard rate. Examples of premium services include TV voting (e.g. The X Factor), text charity donations, competitions (e.g. The Late Late Show) and other entertainment services. These types of calls and texts are not included in our Prepay plan allowances and will use up your credit.

For a full breakdown of your credit use, log in to your My3 account by clicking here, and click 'My3 Account' - 'Detailed Usage' to see what your credit has been used for.
Credit Expiry
Did you know that credit can expire? Depending on which plan you are on, the rules are different around credit expiry.
For customers on our newest plans, Three Super Surfer, Three Total Talker and Three Connect Complete, your credit has a 180-day expiry from the date of your top-up. If the credit is not used within 180 days, it will expire, and each top-up has its own individual expiry date, which you can view on My3.
Customers on any of our legacy BeFree plans will have a 180-day expiry on their top-ups. In addition to this, any new top-up will extend the expiry date for all credit by 180 days. This means that any unused credit will expire after 180 days unless another top-up is applied, which will extend the expiration date of all credit by a further 180 days.
If you are on our legacy 3Prepay plan, things are a little different. When you top-up your account, your credit will remain active and on your balance for 180 days from the date you topped up and each top-up has its own individual expiry date. Where this plan differs is that if you make a chargeable call or text from this credit, then your 180-day expiry date starts from this time.
