Smartwatch Share is here! What is this, and what does this mean for you? We’ve explained everything you need to know below.

What is Smartwatch Share?

Smartwatch Share means that Three customers can now share their mobile plan with their smartwatch.

If you pair your smartwatch and mobile phone and activate a Smartwatch Share add-on through your My3 account, you will be able to browse the internet and make or receive calls from your watch.

How to get started with Smartwatch Share?

To get up and running with Smartwatch Share, there are three things you will need to do:

1. Pair your Watch and Phone
2. Activate Mobile Services
3. Activate Three’s Smartwatch Share add-on.

1. How to Pair your Watch and Phone

1. How to Pair your Apple Watch and Phone.

   To pair your Apple watch with your iPhone, you will need to be using an iPhone XS or newer, running on at least iOS 18.

   If you’re unsure about whether your iPhone or iOS is compatible, the links below might be useful:

   Once you’ve made sure both your iPhone and iOS are up to date, follow these steps:

   • Turn on your Apple Watch.
   • Hold your Apple Watch close to your iPhone and follow the instructions that will appear on-screen.

• Decide whether you would like to set up your Apple Watch as a new device or restore your data from a previous Apple Watch back up.
• Sign in to your Apple account.
• Create a password.
• Customise your settings as needed.

How to Pair your Samsung Watch and Phone.

 To pair your Samsung watch with your Samsung phone you’ll need to make sure that your operating system 5.0 or later with 1.5GB of RAM or more. You’ll also need to be connected to WiFi or your mobile data.

Please keep in mind these instructions apply to the LTE versions of Samsung Galaxy Watches.

• Open the Galaxy Wearable app > Tap the Device manager icon.
• Tap the Plus (+) icon.
• Select your Watch from the list of devices.
• Tap Confirm.
• Follow the onscreen instructions and review permissions for Galaxy Wearable > Tap Continue.
• Tap Agree to grant Galaxy Manager access to the Galaxy Watch.
• Review the Terms of service > Tap More > Tap I agree.
• Select wearing preferences > Tap Next.

2. How to activate Mobile Services.

How to activate Mobile Services using Apple devices

If pairing your Apple Watch and iPhone went smoothly, follow the steps below to set up the Smartwatch Share add-on.

• Open the Watch App on your iPhone​.
• In the ‘My Watch’ tab, tap ‘Mobile Service’.​
• Tap ‘Set Up Mobile Service’.​
• Next, you’ll be directed to purchase and activate the Smartwatch Share add-on from Three.

How to activate Mobile Services using Samsung devices

Now that your Samsung watch is paired with your phone the next step is to enable cellular services.

• On your phone, open the Galaxy Wearable app, and then tap Watch settings.
• Tap Mobile plans; the app will begin scanning for an eligible LTE network.
• Next, follow the prompts to complete the activation. Your phone needs to have an active mobile service including Data.

3. Activate Three’s Smartwatch Share add-on

• Sign into your MY3 account.
• If you have not yet purchased the Smart watch share add-on you will be prompted to do so and activate the service.
• Your smartwatch will then connect to the network and can take up to 30 minutes to activate fully.
• Follow the prompts to activate your Apple Pay
• Allow your devices to sync

Once you have successfully set up the Smartwatch Share add-on, you will be asked to log into your My3 account and activate the add-on.

Please be aware that add-ons can take a few minutes to activate!

What is Smartwatch Share?

Smartwatch Share allows you to share your mobile phone plan with your smartwatch, so you can stay connected on the go without your phone. Smartwatch Share allows you to make and receive calls and use data, all on your smartwatch.

What do I need to set up my Apple Watch with Smartwatch Share?

What you need:

• iPhone XS or later running the latest version of iOS (check Settings > General > About to see your iPhone model and iOS version).
• Your Apple Watch (make sure it's charged!)
• A Three bill pay phone plan

Let's get started!

1.  Update your iPhone: Make sure your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS (Settings > General > Software Update).
2. Connect your iPhone: Ensure Bluetooth is turned on and your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi or your mobile network.
3. Turn on your Apple Watch: Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
4.  Pair your devices: Hold your Apple Watch close to your iPhone and follow the onscreen instructions. You'll use your iPhone's camera to scan the watch face.
5.  Set up your watch: Choose to set up as a new watch or restore from a backup.
6. Sign in and secure: Sign in with your Apple ID and create a passcode for your watch.
7. Customise your settings: Choose your preferred settings for text size, wrist preference, and health data.
8. Activate Smartwatch Share:

• Open the My3 app on your iPhone.
• If you already have Smartwatch Share, you'll be prompted to accept the service and activate it.
• If you haven't purchased Smartwatch Share yet, you can do so easily within the My3 app.

9. Wait for activation: Your smartwatch will connect to the Three network. This may take up to 30 minutes.
10. Enjoy the connection! Once activated, you can make calls, and use data, all from your watch!

If I get a Smartwatch Share add-on, does this come with a contract?​

No. The Smartwatch Share add-on is a standalone add-on, meaning there is no contract. It will appear on your bill on a monthly basis and can be cancelled at any time.​

Can I share my allowance with more than one watch?

Can I share my allowance with more than one watch? 

You can link one watch at a time. If you get a new watch, simply move the service to your new device. 

Can I use my watch internationally?

Smartwatch Share is only available for use within the Republic of Ireland.

Do I have to get a cellular-enabled Smartwatch from Three to use Smartwatch Share add-on, or can I use my own devices?

As long as your phone and smartwatch are compatible and you are a Three mobile customer on an eligible Bill Pay or Business plan, you can avail of the Smartwatch Share add-on.

Who can purchase the Smartwatch Share add-on?​

• New Bill Pay or Business Customers: all that needs to be done is select Smartwatch Share at the time of purchase.
• Existing customers who are on compatible plans can also purchase an Apple Watch and the Smartwatch Share add-on through their My3 account.

How will I be billed?​

The add-on will appear on page 2 of your monthly bill. It will be €4.99 per month.​

Will I be charged for all calls made on the smartwatch?

Smartwatch Share add-on shares your allowances between your phone and your smartwatch. This means that calls made on the smartwatch will use the minutes included in the plan. If you run out of minutes, they will be charged at our standard rates.​ If you want to find out more about your out of bundle charges, click here and select your plan.

Why is it only available for Apple users?

While we have introduced the Smartwatch Share service for Apple devices to begin with, we will roll out capability for other devices over time.

1. These Terms and Conditions apply in addition to the Smallprint Guide at  https://www.three.ie/pdfs/legal/smallprint.pdf and your Bill Pay price plan terms which you agreed to when you entered into your Bill Pay Agreement with Three.
2. The Add-on is not available on a standalone basis and is only available as an additional service under your Agreement with Three for certain Three Bill Pay price plans.
3. In exchange for the relevant monthly Add-on charge of €4.99 inc VAT for consumers and €4.06 ex VAT for business customers, you will, subject to these terms, be enabled to consume your Bill Pay price plan allowances on your compatible Smartwatch within areas with Three coverage areas in the Republic of Ireland, with the exception of Short Messaging Service or SMS (standard text messages sent over a cellular signal) which is not available on your Smartwatch.
4. Please note if the Add-on is activated and the compatible Phone paired to your Smartwatch is switched off, any SMS sent to your compatible Phone number will not be received or queued on your compatible Phone. In addition, you will be charged for any such SMS which is normally chargeable as part of a subscription or premium service that you have subscribed to. In the unlikely event of this happening, you are advised to contact Three.
5. The Add-on is recurring and will be charged in advance on a monthly basis except for a pro-rata charge in the first month (depending on when in your bill cycle the Add-on is applied to your account) and will be applied to your account within 24 hours. If applied during your bill cycle, you will only be charged for the days the Add-on was applied to your account during that bill period.

Compatibility

1. The functionality provided by the add-on is only compatible with phones with 4G or VoLTE capability and activation and it is your responsibility to ensure that you have an appropriate handset/device.

7. Smartwatches can only be paired with compatible Phones. For a list of compatible phones, please see https://www.three.ie/support/4g-and-wi-fi-calling.html under FAQ.

1. In addition the Add-on is only available on certain Three Bill Pay price plans with the list of compatible as set out at the end of these terms.

Sharing Allowances

1. The Add-on does not include any calls, texts or data so your Smartwatch must be paired with your phone to enable the Smartwatch to share the allowances included in your Bill Pay price plan.
2. Using your Smartwatch will deplete the allowances in your Bill Pay price plan. If you exhaust the allowances included in your price plan, you will be charged for any out of allowance you use at the rates for your price plan set out in your price plan Price Guide found at https://www.three.ie/legal/pricing.html
3. You need to have an active Bill Pay service for the duration of the Add-on to be able to share allowances with your Smartwatch. If you cancel your Bill Pay service you will not be able to use data or make or receive calls or texts on your Smartwatch.
4. You will need to be in a 3G or 4G coverage area to be able to connect to the internet from your Smartwatch.
5. You cannot use the Smartwatch Pairing Plan to share the allowances from your Primary Plan in destinations outside of Republic of Ireland, although you can still use the functionality of your Smartwatch over Bluetooth or WIFI.

Ending the Smartwatch Pairing Plan

12. If you cancel your Smartwatch Pairing Plan, you will no longer be able to share allowances.
