Three EU data roaming does not work with Vivo Y33S (Funtouch

The irish Three SIM will not data roam in Poland (outside of ireland) with this Y33S vivo. (The same sim works fine in moto g9 power in poland ).

This phone is popular in Poland and i bought as dead phone replacement  emergency. However Three support were unable to either tell me whether this phone is supported or get it to roam for data on Polish networks. Many hours wasted with Three techs on this.  I have tried to use this phone in Switzerland (not in the EU) and data roaming worked fine. Data roaming also works fine in Ireland.

Either change mobile data provider or do not buy/attempt to use this phone for data in Poland. (It works fine for 2G voice and sms txt calls).

Details of the mobile phone that will not work with EU data roaming enabled, in poland, using an irish three sIM:

vivio y33s

runs a version of android from the chinese manufacturer: funtouch os 12

model:v2109

hardware versino: mp_0.1

build number pd2147gf_ex_a_36.15.2

baseband version: moly.lr12a.r3.mp.v136.6.p147

kernel version: 4.14.186-gb3e05a2ce-dirty

@ctgarvey As you are able to use data roaming using your other phone and are only experiencing difficulties with your Vivo phone. I would suggest double-checking your phone settings to ensure there's no block preventing the phone from connecting. As this is not a phone we currently support I suggest you link in with the manufacturer for more trouble shooting?

Hi there @ctgarvey 👋 That's not what I like to hear. When you were speaking with customer service did they get you to check your APN settings on the phone? To see these click here make sure the settings match and let me know how you get on 😊

THree techs got me to check /modify many things around mobile network including;

sim preferences

roaming

preferred newtork type

network/automatically select network.

THey never suggested editing the APN whose settings are as follows (and these settings work fine in poland using motog9 phone with bill pay three ireland sim)

name:3

APN: 3ireland.ie

proxy:not set

port:not set

username:not set

passwrod:not set

server:not set

mmsc:http://mms.um.3ireland.ie:10021/mmsc

mmsproxy: mms.3ireland.ie

mmsport:8799

mcc:272

mnc:05

authentication type:none

APN type: default,mms, supl

APN protocol: ipv4

APN roaming protocol: ipv4

bearer: unspecified

MVNO type: none

i note there are some differences between these  settings listed on three webpage and the setting in my phone (that works)

And this is why i asked 3 support the simple question 'Do you support vivio y33s for three data while roaming?'

And the response i got was 'i dont know'.

However you have cleared that up by stating  'this is not a phone we currently support'.

I created this community thread so that other people will be aware of this issue with the vivo & three incompatibility

Here is the entire equally unhelpful chat transcript from vivo y33s support:

Especially now that money is linked to your SIM, if your phone fails when you are abroad, then you are in trouble because the local replacement phone may not work. Therefore travel with a spare phone of IDENTICAL type to your working THREE phone.  I would pay extra for a more competent service if one existed. Sadly not.

Thank you for your relationship with vivo customer service
i bought your phone in poland. My sim provider is THREE, Ireland. EU Data roaming does not work in Poland with the vivo y33s. It works ok in ireland

Good morning
hello.

Good morning
i raised this issue with my provider THREE. They dont know why it will not work but says it is not supported. full details are on the community thread that i created here:
https://community.three.ie/t5/Android-Devices/Three-EU-data-roaming-does-not-work-with-Vivo-Y33S-Fun...

Please give me a while for veryfication

would you be able to find out please, why your phone Y33S does not work with THREE EU roaming data ? i had to stop using vivo and now use moto again

Automatic configuration may not work
2G / phone calls worked fine when in another country

You can check the apn settings manually

*#225# you can type this on your phone
we changed all the apn settings as per the THREE team recommendation and it still did not work. So let me rephrase the question;

and send us a screenshot
Do you know if anyone using THREE provider has ever successfully configred EU roaming data such that they have data access in a country that is not their home country?
ok this will take about 10 minutes as i need to remove sim from one phone and put it in another. and then start it. d you want me to do that?

No, we do not have that case previously

There was no report for such issue

with which service you are connecting by roaming?
i would guess that no one ever tried to use yss3 on THREE data roaming before. Because THREE themselves say that your phone is not supported
15:56

Okey
please can you raise case with your support team to find out how to configure y33s to work with THREE network (EU data roaming - outside the country of origin)

Vivo devices are not part of Irish market
yes i know that. but my phone failed and i was not in ireland. i was in poland

with which service you are connecting by roaming?
right now with motog phone (that works) i have following settings:

Do you set same settings as on motog in vivo?
mobile network: 3
preferred network type: 4G
roaming:connect to data services when roaming
automatically select network is: selected
access point names:
3 3ireland.ie

with which service you are connecting by roaming?
4G+ right now

Can you say what is the option of Roaming in the settings?
i attempeted to use same settings on vivo
16:01
roaming: connect to data services when roaming (as stated above)

https://community.three.ie/t5/Mobile-Broadband-Internet/Mobile-Internet-and-MMS-Settings/ta-p/519247

Can you check the settings which I sent?
settings are the same on the motog and were the same onthe vivo

I sent to you settings of apn to check

they are from three website
yes i checked them
and these are the settings we used when i was working with THREE technician

Check Settings->Network&Intrnet->Sim card & Mobile Network -> Sim 1 -> Roaming
i will put the sim in y33s now

Access point names are the settings of APN

I want you to check Roaming which option you have

There should be all networks set
standby please while i put sim in y33s
16:07

I am waiting

Take your time
phone boots

okey
only R service

Check the apn once again for each card
sim card and mobile netowrk: access data using mobile network

There is the difference for each card

as It is written on three website
please confirm what you mean be each card

As it is written on three website

cards are different
one thing i do note. the phone keeps using 3G and keeps connecting to plus. i am trying to choose network manually (i have been through this routine a number of times with different techs)
so THREE does not appear as an option
are you talking about 'SIM' cards ?

I understand
16:12

Yes, as a three said on website, cards are different
my phone number **** is not listed in the three article you mention, but i am using the working settings from motog

In depends which you have you need to set specific settings of apn

It depends of sim card numbers

We suggest check the apn settings depending on which sim card you posses

Then try to maybe connect to other settings manually
16:18
there was 1 difference regarding authenticaiton.
article calls for PAP, but my phone was blank

Okey, if you change then check if it helps
ive changed it.doesnt seem to have made any difference. but there is no THREE network displaying

if not try to connect manually

Three name will not display because this net do not access in Poland

there will be Plus, Play etc

We suggest visit your service provider in Ireland to check the settings with Three assistant
i cant connect to any 3g or 4g service manually
..except for phone calls. no data

We are very sorry, but we did not test three cards in our devices

We can suggest buying prepaid sim card from polish service provider for temporary solutions
16:23
it looks like that even to see the available networks on the vivio, i have to select 'automatically select network' : on
then i can choose one. but none of them enable data

Okey
ok so back to my original question. can you raise a ticket please with your 2ndline/3rd line team to find out if it is even possible for THREE SIMs in y33s. then you can publish the results

Yes we collect feedback to our R&D center

We will analyze this case with our engineers
great thank you

For now I suggested you some temporary solutions like buying prepaid card from polish service provider
End service and rate
No file chosen
p

not a solution - revolut is tied to a unique phone number.

thanks for these.... will try I am in Portugal and data does not work on phone.

Hi @Jimmy007, have you got sorted with roaming in Poland? If not, can you advise what difficulties you are experiencing, along with what networks are showing when you do a manual network search and I am happy to support. Dearbhaile
