How to Install an eSIM
To install an eSIM, you will need to scan a QR code. Follow the steps below to easily install your eSIM according to your phone manufacturer – Apple, Android, Google, or Huawei.
Installing an eSIM on an Apple iPhone (iOS)
If you receive a QR code in an email on your iPhone, you can use the built-in Photos app to scan it.
Option 1: Using the Photos app
- Open your email: Navigate to your email app and open the email from Three containing your eSIM QR code.
- Take a screenshot: Press the Side button and Volume Up button (for newer iPhones) or the Side button and Home button (for older iPhones with a Home button) simultaneously to capture a screenshot of the QR code.
- Go to Photos app: Open the Photos app and find the screenshot you just took.
- Tap the QR code: When you view the screenshot, the iPhone will automatically detect the QR code, and a notification will appear with the link or action related to it.
- Tap the notification: This will take you to the corresponding website or action linked to the QR code.
Option 2: Using Live Text (iOS 15 and later)
- Open your email with the QR code.
- Press and hold the QR code image: If your iPhone supports Live Text, it will detect the QR code and show a prompt to open the link or perform the action.
- Tap the prompt: It will automatically take you to the link or action.
Installing an eSIM on an Android Phone
On Android devices, the best way to scan a QR code from an email is through the Google Lens feature, which is often built into the Photos app.
- Open your email: Go to your email app and open the email from Three containing your eSIM QR code.
- Take a screenshot: Press the Power button and Volume Down button at the same time to take a screenshot of the QR code.
- Go to the Photos app: Open the Google Photos or Gallery app and find the screenshot.
- Tap the Google Lens icon: In Google Photos, the Lens icon (a small square with a dot) will appear at the bottom of the screen.
- Lens scans the QR code: Google Lens will automatically scan the QR code in the screenshot.
- Tap the result: It will open the corresponding link or action.
Installing an eSIM on a Google Pixel Phone
Google Pixel phones come with Google Lens integrated, so you can easily scan a QR code from an email using Lens through the Photos app.
- Open your email: Launch your email app and open the email from Three containing your eSIM QR code.
- Take a screenshot: Simultaneously press the Power button and Volume Down button to capture the QR code.
- Open Google Photos: Go to the Google Photos app and open the screenshot.
- Tap the Google Lens icon: This is located at the bottom of the screen in Google Photos.
- Lens scans the QR code: Google Lens will detect the QR code, and a link or action will appear.
- Tap the result: This will open the webpage or execute the QR code’s action.
Installing an eSIM on a Huawei Phone
Huawei phones often come with built-in QR code scanning features through the HiVision tool or the Gallery app.
Option 1: Using the Gallery app
- Open your email: Go to your email app and open the email from Three containing your eSIM QR code.
- Take a screenshot: Press the Power button and Volume Down button simultaneously to capture the QR code.
- Go to the Gallery app: Open the Gallery and find the screenshot.
- HiVision scans the QR code: Some Huawei phones will automatically detect the QR code within the Gallery. If not, you can manually tap on the HiVision icon at the top of the screen (this icon looks like an eye).
- Follow the link: A link or action will appear related to the QR code, and you can tap it to follow.
Option 2: Using HiVision directly
- Open your email with the QR code.
- Tap and hold the QR code: In some cases, Huawei’s software will recognise the QR code without needing a screenshot.
- HiVision detects the QR code: If it is detected, you will see a pop-up prompt to follow the link.
