Turning Data or Roaming Data on or off

Smartphones send and receive data, even when you are not using them. Smartphones regularly check your email, social networks and other applications that you may have downloaded, for updates.

Sometimes this can lead to unexpected data charges, especially if you are roaming.

To prevent unexpected data charges, we recommend:

  • Regularly check your usage and spend using My3.
  • Make sure you don’t have apps running in the background that might still be using data. Always shut down apps individually after use.
  • Turning data off (which will mean you can’t use email, social network sites or other apps without turning it back on. However it will mean that it won’t regularly check for updates leading to unexpected data charges.)

To turn data off:

  1. Tap Settings
  2. Tap Mobile networks
  3. Tap Data connection
  4. Tap Off
