If you are experiencing any issues connecting to your modem, we suggest that you reset it.

Hold down the power button for 5 seconds and allow the modem to reboot for 2-5 minutes before turning the modem back on.

There is a hard reset button on the rear of the device next to the RJ11 port also.

The modem will automatically switch off and then back on. Once it is rebooted, it will have been reset to its default settings.

If your Wi-Fi key wasn’t accepted try the following tips:

  • Remember, when you enter the password (Wi-Fi key) for your Wi-Fi modem, type it without a space between the eight characters, for example, 79E49E05, not 79E4 9E05.
  • If you need to check your password – it is normally on your Wi-Fi modem underneath the battery. It is printed next to the SIM card slot.

The strength of signal will vary depending on where you are, the weather conditions and even the construction of a building. If you need a stronger signal strength and faster download speeds, here are some things you can try:

  • Try not to put the modem on the floor or behind a sofa, as this can reduce the strength of the wireless signals. Put it on a table or other flat surface instead.
  • Try to locate the modem in a central position in the house.
  • If your modem is on the ground floor and you are having a problem picking up the signal upstairs, put the modem on a shelf.
  • Move your wireless devices away from any appliances or objects that can cause interference, such as microwave ovens, metal sheets, cordless phones, cordless keyboards and computer mice. If you think that one of these appliances may causing interference, switch it off or move it to see if it is the cause.
  • Using the 5GHz bandwidth will help with electronic wave interference. Utilise this feature for larger devices that might need a strong connection strength.

The strength of the signal will vary depending on where you are, weather conditions, and the construction of the building.

If you need a stronger signal strength and faster download speeds, here are some things you can try:

  • To make sure you get the best signal, treat your modem like an aerial. Consider the positioning! (An upstairs room will be better than one in a basement flat).
  • When indoors, try to have the modem near a window. This can also help to improve the signal strength of your connection.
  • Some rooms get a stronger signal than others, depending on the thickness of walls. The more windows in the room, the better.
  • Use Three’s coverage checker to check out the quality of service you can expect in your area.
  • Wired connections will generally create a stronger signal strength than wireless connections.

I need to check signal strength.

If you want to use your device to stream video, use Skype and play games online, you will need to check that it is possible with your device and signal strength. You may not be able to play games online and use Skype if you don't have a strong signal. You will get the best performance if you have three bars or more on 3G or 4G.

To check your coverage, click here.

You can check your signal strength from these icons on your device's LCD screen:

  • 4G – connected to our 4G network
  • 3G – connected to our 3G network
