Insert SIM & Memory Cards

Your Doro 8030 uses a MicroSIM, and you can add extra storage to it with a MicroSD card. Both of them go in the back of the phone, so you'll need to take the cover off first.

  1. Look at the bottom-right of the phone for a small notch in the back cover. Use your thumbnail in this to prise the cover away from the phone.
  2. With the cover off, slide the MicroSIM into the left-hand slot, at the top of the battery compartment. It needs to go in with the metal contacts facing down, and the cut-off corner going in first.
  3. If you're using a MicroSD card, slide it into the right-hand slot, again with the metal contacts facing down.
  4. Put the battery in, using the metal contacts to line it up.
  5. Put the cover back over the phone, and press around the edges to secure it in place.

With everything in, press and hold the power button on the left-hand side of the phone for 2-3 seconds to turn it on, and start setting it up.

Complete Startup Guide

The first time the phone is turned on, you'll see the 'Startup Guide', which is a series of steps to help get the phone set up. If your SIM card isn't active, the phone will skip it and take you straight to the Home screen. To go through the Startup Guide, go to Settings > Startup Guide.

Setting up your phone

  1. On the first screen, you'll be asked if this is your first smartphone, and the Startup Guide will change if it is. If you've used a smartphone before, tap No to skip some of the basics. If you've never used a smartphone before, tap Yes to go through the beginner Setup. This guide will follow the beginner steps.
  2. If you know how to scroll on the screen, tap Yes, or tap No to see a tutorial.
  3. Tap OK.
  4. If the text size is fine for you, tap It is fine, or tap It is a bit small to change it.
  5. Tap OK once the text size is set.
  6. Hold the phone up to your ear and see if the earpiece speaker is loud enough. If it is, tap Loud and clear, if not tap It is not loud enough to turn the sound up.
  7. Tap OK once the volume is set.
  8. If you want to connect to the internet, tap Yes, or if not, tap No.
  9. If you've got a broadband connection at home, tap Yes, or tap No if you don't.
  10. If you pressed yes, you'll be asked if you have Wi-Fi at home. Tap Yes if you do, No if you don't, or I don't know if you're not sure.
  11. If your Wi-Fi router has a 'WPS' button, tap Yes, then tap the WPS button on your router. If it doesn't, or if you're not sure, tap No.
  12. To connect to Wi-Fi using a password, tap your Wi-Fi network from the list.
  13. Type the password for your Wi-Fi, and press Connect.
  14. If you've got a mobile data allowance with your SIM, tap Yes. If you don't, or you're not sure, tap No.
  15. If you have, tap Yes to turn it on, or No to leave it off.
  16. Tap OK to start adding a Google account - you'll need this if you want to download any new apps or games.
  17. If you have a Google account, type in your email address and tap Next. If you don't have one, tap Or create a new account. If you don't need one, tap Skip.
  18. If you're signing in, type in your password, and press Next.
  19. You'll have to agree to Google's 'Terms of Service' and 'Privacy Policy'. Tap them to read them, then tap Accept to agree.
  20. You might be asked to add some payment info to your Google account. To do it, choose a payment method, tap Continue, then fill out the details for it. If you don't want to add any, tap No, thanks, then Continue.
  21. Read through the Google services, which include options to back up your information, and use your phone's location for things like maps and weather. Keep the boxes ticked for the things you want to use.
  22. Tap Next.
  23. To set up a 'screen lock' on your phone, tap Set screen lock now. We'll cover this later on in the guide, so to go back to the setup, tap Skip.
  24. Tap OK to go back to the Startup Guide.
  25. You'll be asked if you want to set any other bits up now - again we'll cover these later in this guide, so tap No to carry on.
  26. Tap OK to read the Doro 'Terms and Conditions'.
  27. Read through the terms, or tap Go to end to skip to the bottom.
  28. Tap Accept to continue.
  29. The Startup Guide is almost finished. If you want to see some FAQs about the phone, tap Yes, or tap No to go to finish off the Setup.
  30. You'll be shown some information on the buttons of your Home screen, including the Call, View and Send buttons, read through each and tap OK to move on.
  31. When you're at the end of the demonstration, tap Quit to go to the Home screen.

The Startup Guide is finished, and you'll be on the Home screen. You can start using the phone, and the rest of this guide will help you to get things like email and the lock screen set up.
