When it comes to choosing a phone plan that's right for you, there are three main things you should be thinking of: data, phone calls and texts. (There is also roaming abroad and add-ons but we'll get to those later.)

Data: This includes emails, WhatsApp, browsing the web, apps and social media. If you use any of these, you'll need a plan with data. How much data you need depends on how often you use the internet. For example, if you watch Netflix on your phone, you can use approximately 1GB of data every hour! This can be bumped up to 3GB of data for High-Definition (HD) streaming. With Three, you get a certain amount of data per month, but you can get up to 10GB with an add-on.

Calls: If possible, sit down with your invoices or mobile phone call log and get a weekly or monthly estimate of how many calls you make and the time spent on each call. Since smartphones became popular along came internet calling apps like Skype and WhatsApp, and so we can often underestimate the number of calls we make per week/month. Make sure to have a look at your recently dialled calls and check how many minutes you're using, this will help decide what plan you should go for based on your usage.

 

SMS: More commonly known as text messages. With the rise of WhatsApp and other mobile messaging services, text messages have taken somewhat of a backseat. Just like making calls, make sure not to underestimate how much you use SMS. Think of people you know who don't use a smartphone - do you have an allowance of SMS to stay in touch with these friends or family members? At Three, you’ll have an allowances of texts each month as part of your core plan.
