Roaming not working

Hi there, 

I am a business bill pay and my phone is not working when I go abroad. I am the owner of the business. I have an iPhone and the Mobile data option is set to roaming on. I don't get a network text welcoming me to the country from another network. Can you please let me know what I can do to fix the problem? Flying to London in the morning. I am a Irish resident.

When you're abroad does your phone automatically pick up a network? If it doesn't are you able to manually select a network through the settings?
