I have had Three 4G broadband since around 2017, back when Three was the only 4G provider in my area. Over the past few years the 4G mast here got congested to the point point where I decided to upgrade my router and outdoor antennas to pick up a different Three 4G tower operating 4G bands 1 and 3 across Donegal bay. This worked well until someone inside Three thought it would be a good idea to make band 1 a 5G only band around May 2024, severely crippling my evening speed again, often down to single digit Mbps readings, the same as if I try connecting with Three's 4G mast in Kilcar.
A few others I knew using Three here have since switched network or lucky enough to get fibre and one person was even surprised wondering why I am still putting up with Three! In July 2024, I called Three to cancel my broadband and the assistant asked if I would stay another 6 months at a reduced rate while they look into the service in Kilcar, which I reluctantly accepted. Since then nothing has been done with Three's service in Kilcar. In that time Vodafone upgraded their mast to 4G+ and when I bought a prepay SIM to test their network, I am getting 60Mbps to 80Mbps in the evening, a massive improvement over the low readings such as 10Mbps I'm getting on Three.
Is there any plan over the next month or two to upgrade the 4G service to 4G+ or even 5G to Kilcar? I would rather not start a contract with another network particularly as the NBI has already surveyed our area.
