TP Link GSM router connection issues

Hey guys and gals,

Im not sure if any of ye have had a similar issue or if anyone can help me but I purchased a TP Link Archer Mr505 router which is powered by a SIM card.

The problem.

I have a pre pay Three SIM card on a €20 p/m plan but I cannot get the router to connect to the internet. I have signal but no internet connection. I have tried a relatives Vodafone SIM card and it works flawlessly, but unfortunately no such joy with the Three SIM.

Attempted solutions

I have tried changing the preset APN and security settings and also tried a replacement SIM card but no joy.

if anyone has any solutions it would be greatly appreciated as I would like to stay with Three as they have better network coverage in my area.

Hi there @Richard_38288, the TP Link Archer Mr505 isn't one that we support at Three so I'm not sure how much help I can be but I was just wondering if you've check the sim is working correctly by popping it in a phone to make sure that it is pick up service? Also,  have you had a look at TP-Links Community I believe they have a troubleshooting section in their Knowledgebase.

Hi @Three_Stacey thanks for your reply,

I have tried the sim in a mobile and everything works as it should ( text, call & data) the router is receiving a signal / communicating with the three network as I can send and receive text messages through the router, it just won’t allow me to access the internet.

thanks

Hey @Richard_38288, as this isn't a third-party device I wouldn't be able to provide a step-by-step on how to activate the network on the device but from what you are describing it sounds like you may need to update the APN so your device has access to data. Can you try updating the APN to 3ireland.ie and then restart the modem to chack if this works for you.

Hey @Three_Niall  I have updated my APN to as listed above but to no avail, I know this is not a supported device and your knowledge on the device specific details are limited so I really appreciate you trying to help me out on this one.

in my network settings page I have the following options and beside is what they are currently set to.

PDP Type: IPv4 (I have also tried IPv6 and IPv4 &IPv6)

APN Type: Static

APN: 3ireland.ie

Username: Null

Password: Null

Authentication Type: None ( I have also tried PAP and CHAP)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Richard

@Richard_38288  As the data is was working in the phone but not the broadband device this sounds like it would be an issue with the settings on the device itself, I would recommend going into the network settings and attempting to manually connect to the network and if this fails I would recommend checking their community for tips for setting up a connection.
