I notice that support for topping up by Apple Pay was added to the Three app in the last few months. Unfortunately it doesn't work with Visa, MasterCard or American Express. It just immediately says that the payment failed, and none of the card issuers record that there was any attempt to charge the card.
Instead the user has to enter the first name, surname, e-mail address, postal address, card number, expiry date and CVV, which completely defeats the fast, secure and seamless functionality of Apple Pay.
When paying by Apple Pay in an app or on a web site, one's American Express cards don't appear in the list of available cards unless the merchant specifically accepts American Express. No American Express cards are issued in Ireland, so this example confirms that Three intends to accept non-Irish cards, at least those issued by American Express. But again, it doesn't work.
Please can Three shed some light on why Apple Pay doesn't work at all in the app?

Yes, it worked at the end of June, but we haven't needed to try again since then.
