Why are existing customers being charged more for new phones

I was in store today and looking at the cheapest Samsung option available. On the shelf price tag it was down as €69.99. I waited a good ten minutes or more to speak to an adviser and when I eventually did he told me the phone would cost more for me because I was an existing customer. I would have to pay 150 euro. When I told him that this didn't seem fair to me that existing customers were charged more he told me that all the networks were doing it. I have since also spoken to a customer service adviser who could not give me an answer as to why I should stay with Three network since the best option would be leave and come back as a new customer and told me he respected my decision to leave. So I ask (as a Three customer for 18+ years), why should I remain an existing customer if I'm being made to pay more? Is my loyalty not valued? Is my money not worth the same as a new customer's?

Hey @LaikaVirgo , I can understand your disappointment. Some of our offers require switching to Three from another network to activate the price change however our offers change regularly so keep an eye on our website to check when offers for existing customers take place.

Hi. Hopping on the bandwagon here. I’ve been waiting on my upgrade date, the 5th of October and when I checked it out yesterday it’s moved to the 5th of Oct next year. Now it may appear that I’ve got mixed up. But I’m pretty sure I’m right. Can you explain what has happened? Thanks

Hey @Add_25059, I'll be happy to help you here. I wouldn't be able to give you specifics on your account on a public forum but the simple answer is it depends on when you signed your contract and how long your contract was for. For example if you signed up for a 24 month contract on October 2024 and you are on a 24 month contract then your current contract wouldn't expire until October 26 and the above would be correct.

I definitely didn't sign up for it any earlier than 2022. I have an iPhone 12 and haven't even considered changing it. I did move up a plan about a month ago as I was hit with a bad bill in September. But apart from that?

@Add_25059 , I'd love to look into this further for you but to be specific I'd need to take a look at the account for you, pop through to me here on PM along with your full name, mobile number, address and date of birth so we can see what is going on.

Agree with this. Terrible way to treat existing customers. Total rip off, guess we should all go to a new provide and get new customer deals there.

EVery single network rips off existing customers when it comes to upgrades. The only way to save money on a new phone is to move networks. Seems to be also the case that they rip off new customers that aren't moving networks too
