How to avoid unexpected charges while abroad
When abroad, it is possible to spend your credit or run up your bill without realising. To help stay in control, we've put together some simple tips:
Keep An Eye On Your Usage
Regularly check your usage and spending with your My3 by clicking here.
Use Wi-Fi Whenever You Can
When possible, connect to Wi-Fi instead of mobile data, this will help to reduce your spend. For more information on how to do this, visit our Device Guides to learn how to connect to Wi-Fi.
Close Unused Apps
Apps running in the background can still use data. Make sure you close apps when your done using them.
Turn Off Automatic Updates
This will stop your phone form automatically downloading content without you knowing.
Avoid Data Heavy Activity
Avoid streaming music & video, and downloading large files, as they use a lot of data. See how much data common activities like streaming and social media use, clicking here.
Turn Off Data Roaming
For total peace of mind, switch off your data roaming in your phone's settings. For support on how to do this, check out our Device Support. Select your device to get started. (e.g. choose iPhone 16, then go to Internet > How to disable data roaming. Follow the step-by-step guide)
