VoLTE and WiFI Calling

Three are the only network in Ireland not yet offering either VoLTE or WiFi Calling.

Even GOMO are now offering it

Hi @Luke_15673 👋  I haven't heard anything like this. Are you still experiencing difficulties? Have you been in contact with care since you posted here?

Hi @Three_Stacey

Yeah I’m able to reproduce the drop about 50% of the time.

It’s mainly when I’m travelling and I get kicked to 3G and the call drops.

The area has has strong full bars 3G coverage and the calls would work fine if it’s initiated on 3G.

I’m able to reproduce a lot by calling 171 in case anyone wants to view logs.

Thanks @Luke_15673 the more information we have the better. The next step here is to pass your details on to the technical team so they can investigate. Please PM me your name, number, full address and date of birth.

Also, let me know when you first noticed a call drop and the date, time and number of the most recent.

When will we be able to use WiFi calls on iPhones? I live in an area with poor reception so need this.

Hi @Add_11545 Wi-Fi calling for Apple devices isn't available as of yet but we're in talks with Apple to get this updated at the moment I don't have a definite timeframe.  But don't worry as soon as we get confirmation I'll let you guys know 👍

What's going on with 3 WiFi Calling?

There is a Three web page detailing supported devices found here: https://www.three.ie/legal/terms/wi-fi-calling.html

It appears to be only Samsung devices, and appears to only work in the ROI.

GoMo and Eir allow WiFi Calling anywhere in the world, which is extremely helpful for traveling. Three Ireland have terrible roaming rates when outside of the EU. It would be great if we could at least use WiFi Calling...

Will 3 be supporting WiFi Calling on iPhone soon?

Yeah, it’s a joke. I’ve since switched to eir as their sim only is €10/month and they have wifi calling regardless of what phone you have.

What do you mean by that? It's a shambles that you don't offer this service already and we're supposed to wait for you to tell us when (if) it will be ready, which could take years.

@Torbell In regards to using WiFi Calling abroad this isn't part of our initial release for the service. That's not to say in the future this may change. VoLTE calling can be used both at home & abroad.

WiFi Calling will not be available for iPhone until the end of 2022.

Hi there,

I live in Donegal, 9 kilometers from the nearest border with Northern Ireland but I can generally only connect to UK roaming networks (we live near a lake and the UK mobile network signals are somehow stronger than the Irish networks). I just took out a new contract with Three and bought a wi-fi calling-compatible phone in order to avail of wi-fi calling but now I learn that I'll only be able to use the service if I'm connected to an Irish network which I can't usually do.

Will I be able to use wi-fi calling if my phone is usually roaming on a UK network, even though I'm always physically in the Republic of Ireland?
