I am not sure if I have mobile broadband or home broadband ? I am useing a sim card in a large router. Also is there a way to test if I am getting 4G or 5G network ?also is there a mod here that can give me a map of where my cell tower is for my broadband.
@novicfps Best place to look at is https://www.comreg.ie/privacy their privacy page
@novicfps Hi there, do you know the router model and plan by any chance? Technically, our broadband plans are mobile, except for tech - install and some fixed line business accounts. @Arad12 has kindly made this suggestion on another thread "Check the comreg website coverage map and put your eircode in to see what coverage you can expect at your address to make sure" You'll need a 5G enabled router to pick up 5G. Have you check the 5G coverage in your area via our website? here
Its a modem/router which 3 has 1000GB data limit on which will connect to the near base station which has antennas or mast on them due to 5G having a high spectrum it works better outdoors than indoors same as 4G.
Have you ever wondered ah why is my phone not working with 4G indoors its the same reason and the most places 4G will work is by the window or balcony as most 4G and 5G mast work better outdoors due to their spectrum it really depends on how much your area is coveraged which is important to note.
Use the comreg website they are the organization that looks after the sites/cell towers.
The way you can test if you are getting 4G or 5G is it will show a specific colour on your broadband and if it turns on for 4G that means its 4G and same if a colour turns on for 5G it will be 5G.
I will classify it as a mix of both due to its being connected to the cell tower which most consumers do with their regular phones and getting signal from it.
If coverage isn't good inside of your home maybe a visit outside will help a coverage a bit as there is less barriers outside than inside like for e.g. thick walls, too far away from cell tower, what spectrum bands like GSM/2G, UMTS/3G, LTE/4G and NR/5G the cell towers have. If you live near trees or area that is heavily wooded area signal would reduced a lot there is a reason why radio waves work better in urban areas and areas that are open spaced as radios can pass through easier and the more base stations there is the better the signal.
Do a test on your phone you can check for your signal if your on android go to
thanks for the shoutout deborah
I'm useing a TP-link AC1200 dual band wifi Archer MR400 I'm on €30 a month unlimited plan @Three_Deborah that link to check 5G on three website does not work the "here" link
@novicfps sorry about that and thanks for the heads up! I added in an extra character into that link by accident. Here is the full link: https://www.three.ie/shop/coverage-check.html
@novicfps if you have the broadband can you do a speed test and see what download and upload you get if your download is up that means your area is well covered or not that means the area mostly like has less cell towers.
Learn about the spectrum band a lot of signal from three works through radio waves which get transmitted to your home from the closest cell tower moral of story closer to the base station the more signal u have but it depends on what spectrum bands like GSM/2G,UMTS/3G,LTE/4G and NR/5G your cell tower uses. It's important to place the router by a window that has good signal to the cell tower if you put the router in a place that is considered "dead zone" it means that area is out of range from the closest tower or not covered due to thick walls or other factors keep note.
@Three_Deborah @novicfps This is the link for the site/cell towers you can visit within your area be aware the map does update every year I’m not mistaken https://siteviewer.comreg.ie/
Brilliant @Arad12 that cell tower map showed up perfect. how will I know If it is updated ?
