Hi
I have the ZTE T300 router. Sony Bravia KD-50X75WL.
When router is connected to the TV or my laptop via Ethernet (either cat 5 or cat 6 cables) the internet speed is typically 14 - 20 Mbps. Won't go higher than 20 Mbps or so. When connected via WiFi I can get speeds of up to 170+ Mbps and higher at non peak times. Ethernet connection to TV presents issues with streaming at peak hours when speeds drop to less than 7,8,9 Mbps....
The WiFi signal is generally very stable but I'd still prefer a wired connection. I've tried each of the 3 free LAN ports on the router. No matter what device is connected (tried 3 different TVs and 2 different laptops) via Ethernet to the router, the speeds are woeful. I've done the usual reboot and power cycles (leaving router off for 6 minutes) etc. Only conclusion I've been able to come to is that there's a fault with the router. WiFi works as expected but internet pretty much unusable for streaming HD when connected via ethernet cable. Anybody able to shed any light on this? Thanks.
Hey @David_03243, Welcome to the 3Community 🙂
When you are connecting the router to the TV can I confirm if you are using the WAN ports on the back of the router these would be the two slots on the left-hand side (opposite the power slot" of the device. If you are looking to query this further I would recommend contacting our dedicated broadband team on 1913 for support.
Thanks Niall
I just tried each port a minute ago after reading your message. The port nearest the power slot is taken with the 'main connection' but I tested on each of the remaining 3 slots. 3 speeds tests from each slot gave me 26 Mbps just now. Switched back to. WiFi and I got 210 Mbps. I know the TV likely won't allow 210Mbps via ethernet but I should really be getting up to 100Mbps (likely 80-90)
I'll call Broadband support to query further. Thanks. David
Hi,
Did you get this resolved?I have the same problem.
Thanks
Niall
No. Called Three customer support. Went through the usual ridiculous "turn the router off and on" troubleshooting steps etc and eventually they agreed to send a technician out. Nice man but didn't know what he was doing. Tried to tell me everything was fine, that he was getting 150+ Mbps download speed on his laptop until I pointed out he was on WiFi. His response was "well, that's what we do, WiFi". He couldn't get Ethernet connection to work on his laptop. Still don't know what the point of him coming to the house was. Anyway, it's still unresolved and Three couldn't care less if they tried. Estimated another year before we're connected to Fiber on NBI scheme. Stuck with Three until then. Don't even bother wasting your time contacting them. They won't resolve the issue and they don't care.
Ok thanks, another 7 months or so left on contract and fibre just available now,so will change then.thanks again
