Voicemail - can't get through - was I spammed? Scam?

Hi,
I'm currently abroad and received a missed call that also left a voicemail. The SMS said to call 17116. This isn't a valid voicemail number for 3 is it? I called it though but couldn't get through as it said I didn't have enough credit to get through. I had nearly 7 euro credit at the time.
I dialed 171 but again the same message.
I then tried the international number for voicemail +353833333171 but got the same message.

Do I actually need more than 7 euro to check my voicemail when abroad? Nahhh surely not 😀

Also can I get my voicemail removed. It is pointless.

Thanks

@Maldini Hi there, while in Ireland the voicemail number is 171 but when somebody leave you a message it gets a unique 2 digit identifier which will bring you straight to that message rather than going through the whole voicemail menu. In your case those two digits were 16.

When you're abroad, calling your voicemail isn't quite the same, you need to call the voicemail box number, and that number is your prefix, followed by 5 then the rest of your number. For example , 083 (5) XXX XXXX. I reckon, that calling 17116 or 171 is recognised as a special number by foreign networks , hence the credit alert.

In November, you mentioned on here on the public forum , that you were in the Philippines. the cost of calling voicemail from there is €1.78 per minute.

You can remove the diverts to your voicemail, but for those to successful complete, you need to be in Ireland. Next time you're here, have a look at our blog about voicemail and how to cancel the diverts 👇

Thank you Deborah, I was paranoid it was a scam attempt of sorts.
Thanks for that! I'll try ringing using the method you said.
