In our recent mod tips & tricks, @Three_Deborah spoke about some awesome camera tips and tricks and how to best use filters and other features to create amazing photos. This week, we are looking at what may be an obvious one to some, but many out there still aren’t backing up their photos 😮. It is always important to have a backup in case disaster strikes, and you lose the photos stored on your phone 😧
Back up that Android
Android users who have a Google account are well on their way to preserving their photos and other files with the standard free 15GB memory. A range of Google apps come pre-installed for most Android phones/tablets, especially Google Drive and Google Photos. And these are the ideal places to sync, store, and share your files.
Go to Settings > Accounts and Backup > Select your preferred “cloud” Google Drive > Back Up Data > Toggle on Google Drive and under Photos & Videos select Google Photos > Toggle on “Back up & sync”
Now you have automatic backups for your files, photos, and videos. I have also enabled Samsung Cloud back-up just to be thorough!
As you can see, you can also check your storage info here too and choose to expand this for a small fee, if you don’t have enough room in the standard 15GB.
The Google Photos app also has a ‘Sharing’ option along the bottom toolbar. Here, you can create an album and choose how you want to share it with your nearest and dearest. You can invite them to view your album via Google Photos using their email address, but there is also an option to share via WhatsApp and similar apps. It's super handy for sharing all those fabulous snaps that you have been creating!
iPhone is in the clouds
For those of you using iPhones, the option to backup your photos is in your Settings. Scroll to Photos and switch on iCloud Photos. In here, you will also see the option to download and keep your original photos or optimise your iPhone storage by removing them from the phone storage.
Like Google Photos, you will also see a Shared Albums option in here, so you can share all your pictures with just a few clicks!
Need more options?
No problem, there are many available.
