I have been dealing with an issue with my phone for the last 2 months, and I have gone from apple to three, back to apple, and then back to three multiple times with no resolution as each party tells me to contact the other.
I bought an iPhone 12 pro max from Three online on the 11 of November 2020. I had no issues until July 2022 when all of a sudden the phone can no longer find service. The phone is in perfect condition, never been dropped or near water. I contacted three support who reset the network and did multiple things with no help, they then gave me a new SIM and said that will sort it and if not, I would have to go to an Apple store e.g. Select (AKA CompuB). The new SIM did not work as the phone still had no service and didn't even know it had a SIM inserted. Three then told me to contact Apple as it must be a software/hardware issue.
I then went to the Apple store which told me it would be 630 euros to repair, as it failed all the diagnostic tests regarding cellular service and there was a fault internally in the phone. I do not have the money for this and they told me if I got an Invoice/Proof of purchase from Three, that since it was within the 2 years of purchase they would cover the charge. I then got my proof of purchase from Three through an email, and my phone was sent off to Apple by Select for 7 days with no replacement phone.
They then contacted me today to say that Apple has rejected my claim to repair the phone with the charges covered by Three as they did not accept the invoice I was emailed, they said it wasn't an acceptable proof of purchase even though it was what Three sent me. And said that I will have to pay the full amount for the repair, or to contact the reseller (Three) as I have a warranty with you since it's less than 2 years.
I am sick of going back and forth with no resolution. I have never damaged my phone in any way so this is an internal fault and I should not have to pay as it is not even 2 years old. This has never happened with any of my other iPhones I bought from Apple, only this one I purchased from Three for the first time. Can you please advise me on what to do next it has been 2 months without a phone with no replacement being given and no one seems to be helping me? Can three repair this free of charge if I provide the invoice?
@Add_15081 Hi there, I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your iPhone. My suggestion for you is to bring your phone to your local Three store click here to find out where that is. Once you bring it in store the agent will book it in for repair. It'll be sent off to be accessed, once the assessment is completed you'll be contacted to advise what the fault is & if there'll be any cost for the repair.
The exact same issue has happened to my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Three have quoted me €648 and would not even specify what the issue is. I then took my phone to Apple who explained it was an issue with the rear system, something to do with the SIM card reader specifically, and that it would be covered under Irish Consumer Law if I took the phone back to Three as it is under 2 years old and in "immaculate condition" as also stated by the Three worker who sent my phone off the second time. I called Three support who just keep telling me to send the phone off through the store. This has been going on for 2 months now and in the meantime I am using an iPhone 7 which the battery runs out every 3 hours making it impossible to use for work.
@Michelle_13367 Hi Michelle, I will need to check on the details of the previous repairs to confirm what the damage is to the phone. When a phone is sent away for repair if the fault is due to a manufacturing issue then the phone is repaired free of charge, this is what the iPhone warranty covers. Can I get you to PM me your number, full name, address, date of birth, & the IMEI of the phone in question & I'll get this checked out for you?
Hi Michelle, so sorry this happened to you as well. This went on for 2 months but I couldn't fight with them anymore and had to pay Fonfix (Threes repair service) 709 euros to fix the phone, as I couldn't use my spare iPhone 8 for work anymore as it would die every few hours.
I was never told what was wrong with the 12 pro max and even though it was less than 2 years old, in immaculate condition never dropped before, I still had to pay for it. This must be a common issue if it has happened to you as well. Let me know if you had to pay almost 700 to get your phone fixed as well, as they wouldn't argue with me. I would've been better off buying a new phone to be honest. Scammers.
