Vodafone Ireland have recently started issuing ESims in ROI. I think Three should follow suit soon, handsets such as iPhone only allow dual sim using one of these
I still have the email that was sent to me to activate my esim. Reading through it says that the QR code cannot be reused. There is however, no mention that it will expire if not used before a defined time.
@Dalk Hi, when I went into 3 again yesterday to try and sort out my eSIM mishap which is explained in earlier post. Three said the QR code expires after like 5 mins from email and one minute on the screens after requesting the eSIM. And with the hell going on with sorting out my number to get it back onto a sim/esim. He said he was going to strongly get the expire time on the QR code extended or that you can request the time to start again when you need to use the QR code so don’t have to request new code just to activate the code again. Hope this helps and hopefully they actually do this.
Lovely guy in Three Store setup my eSIM in a few minutes. His first time doing it, so was a bit of a learning curve. Took three attempts, but we got there. Only hope Three doesn’t have same problems Vodafone had when they first attempted to roll out esims.
Such a game changer. One physical and three eSIMs on my iPhone with four different networks. I will probably delete the LycaMobile one, as after a week of trying to “Port” my 48 number completely failed, I can now use the physical sim instead. Only €7.50 down the drain 😀😀
Wow, having to drop into store to a) get the eSIM to begin with and b) change it to a different phone, really stifles the efficiency and usefulness of eSIM.
Seems like the Three eSIM offering is the least flexible and least attractive eSIM offering so far!
I’m hoping that this situation will improve quickly in due course…like in an another month or two and not into 2024!!
Hey everyone, I can see that you have all been doing a great job over the week and delighted to see how excited you are with the introduction of the eSIMs. I can see there is a few questions within this post so I wanted to pop back here with some clarification before we wrap up for the weekend.
Existing customers at the moment need to pop instore to activate eSIM, but in the next couple of weeks existing customers will be able to request this online. This also means that customers looking to switch an eSIM between devices will be able to do this online and request the QR code rather than going into store, once this is available.
I know a lot of you are excited about using eSIMs for wearables but unfortunately. eSIM will not be available for wearables until 2024.
I have checked here for you in relation to the QR codes and while the QR codes don’t expire these are singe use QR Codes and can’t be used again.
Many thanks for clearing things up Niall. Really appreciate it. Let’s hope we’re not waiting too long in 2024 for the wearables.
Great to hear that the QR codes don’t expire and that existing customers will be able to do it online soon. Let’s hope it’s up and running my the time I’m heading away.
Not starting too well with Three eSIM. Unable to send SMS messages on my iPhone. iMessages are fine.
Was told to “Reset” the device, which didn’t help. Three Store deleted and reinstalled eSIM, which also didn’t help.
I was told that a “Ticket” has been raised by Three Store Staff, to trace and investigate. Hopefully this is just a minor hiccup and will be resolved. My diagnosis is that “Message Centre Number” isn’t set correctly. In the good old days we could access and easily edit that.
