ESIM Rollout

Hi

Vodafone Ireland have recently started issuing ESims in ROI.  I think Three should follow suit soon, handsets such as iPhone only allow dual sim using one of these

@Torbell Hi there & welcome to the 3Community. In regards to offering eSIM service/support the eSIM team has advised that we're working to launch in 2023. As soon as there's any further update regarding the launch date we'll be sure to post here for everyone to see.

Will the launch of esim in 2023 include Apple Watch?

@AnonymousI can't definitively answer your question, but it might interest you to know that Three UK, which shares its chief executive with Three Ireland, launched eSIM for Apple Watch earlier this year well before relaunching eSIM for phones supposedly later this year. I suspect this is because eSIM for Apple Watch gives the opportunity for Three to charge an additional £7 per month, which is not the case for eSIM for phones. I expect that Three Ireland will do the same.

As I wrote about a month ago: It's a shame that Three takes more than 4 years to develop such an eSIM.

Didn't they take this development seriously?

The first eSIM's were already announced in 2015 and since 2018 they have been used regularly in devices!

Why did Three oversleep this development?

This is more than unsatisfying for customers who want to buy new smartphones and other eSIM-enabled devices and cannot do this without having to switch to a competitor's network!

What's actually the problem?

@Browni, I believe that the delay is caused by a bungled launch of eSIM by Three UK in September 2020, which has still not been relaunched. I explained what happened earlier in this thread here, including why it is likely to have a bearing on Three Ireland's launch of eSIM.

BTW: Launching in 2023 is a very long period!
What does it concrete mean … beginning, mid or end of the year?

Three UK and Three Ireland networks are handled as different entities, so if something happens in one it doesnt necessarily mean it will happen in the other.
I would guess that Three Ireland are working more  (/ spending more money ) on network swap out and new 5G masts and will do other network improvements later on

@billbond4Yes, Three UK and Three Ireland are separate legal entities with separate networks, but they appear to share a lot of technology. With respect to eSIM, reports in August 2021 here and here explained that Three had just signed an agreement with Amdocs for both Three UK and Three Ireland, which included eSIM functionality. I posted this earlier in this thread.

@Three_Shane1and to whom it may concern.
My last comment has been over 6 weeks ago and it is very quiet on this channel with the topic eSIM!
Even my last post seemed to be ignored.

Isn't there any new news about the timeline rolling out eSIM's in 2023.
After all, 2023 is 12 months long, so it could be a year before the eSIM is rolled out and Three is leaving customers out in the rain.
A slightly better information policy would be desirable.
