Not able to add funds to Apple Account using Prepay Credit?

Hi,

I am using Apple Iphone.

I am on three.ie prepay.

I used to (recently) be able to add my unused top-up balance as my Apple Account funds.

As in - I top up my mobile with €20. I use whatever over the next month and I transfer reminder of that to my Apple ID.

I tried adding it today (26/08/2023) and it was unsuccessful...

What has changed? Is this no longer going to work?

I have checked the page on the site that you have linked below and the information on this page is correct. Three customers can use 3Pay on the services listed on the website however you would only be able to use 3Pay for direct purchases from the services shown and this does not include topping up an Apple account.

Hi there 

I’m currently having an issue related to this wherein which my Apple Music subscription payment is being rejected by my mobile billing despite having €37 credit available for use. I’ve contacted Apple several times and each time there blaming three, the network provider for this issue. Everytime I attempt to make the purchase I’m just being requested to add another payment method which I do not want to do. Could I please have some clarity on this?

When you are attempting to make the payment are you attempting to make the payment directly using credit and is the mobile phone option already appearing as available?

well it’s set as an accepted payment method on my account and has been used to pay for my subscriptions for years. This is the first time I’ve ever had a problem. The amount I need it to pay for Apple Music is €16:99 and there is €37 credit available. The numerous times payment has been attempted it has been unsuccessful and my account has now been cancelled due to this. I’ve had a lengthy phone call with Apple and they are stumped as to the problem, there saying it must be on the mobile providers end.

Can you try selecting the "Mobile Phone" payment option and check if there is an option to have this as the Default Payment option to make sure it is attempting to use your phone as the payment option rather than the subscription being taken from the "Apple Account"?

That Is not possible, apple account is always on top anyway. I am having the same problem, I have been trying to pay for an app and it’s asking me to add another payment method. And I just topped up 10€ on purpose to have the money to pay the app. 

If I can’t buy an app subscription, what exactly can I do with 3 pay?

Does 3 pay even exists anymore?

As the OP I can confirm that this is now "working correctly" if by working correctly you mean that You cannot add funds from three.ie balance to AppleID. You can pay for some services and apps. I pay for iCloud storage and a Apple Music family package for example.

What needs to be done is - you need to set up your mobile number as the payment method:

 And You need to have your subscriptions active:

When the time comes Apple will take the funds from Your three.ie account (balance must be equal or more than the subscription price) and You will get a text from three:

And the next day You will get e-mail from Apple:

 

I couldn't test it earlier as around Xmas I have received a heavily discounted offer of 3 months of Apple Music and it only expired recently.

I can now confirm that You cannot add funds from Three.ie balance to iCloud funds BUT paying for Apple services and apps using Mobile Number as payment method - works.

 Are you bill or prepay? I have the subscription active and still won’t let me pay for it. The payment didn’t work and if I try to pay it, it says I need to add a payment method.

So, I added 10€ on purpose to pay the app and I can’t use it. I’d like and answer from a mod.

If 3pay is not active anymore for prepay customers it should be stated and we should have been informed.
