RCS iOS 18

With the release of iOS 18 RCS is now available on iPhone. I have updated and it is not available on my iPhone. It should be under settings > messages > RCS messaging but it is not there. This is a carrier service so is it just missing my my device or is it not available for iPhones on three Ireland.

That’s odd Apple document “https://support.apple.com/en-ie/108048” doesn’t list this yet.

Is there any update to if RCS is coming.

No, @Thomas_05354, I haven't received any information on when the RCS is scheduled to be released yet.

So any update on Three updating their network to support native RCS for either android or iOS? Since I would prefer to now use googles workaround for the android devices.

and before we are getting another response that it is apples job and using apples documentation as justification for that… how about quotes from wikipdia:

Rich Communication Services (RCS) is a communication protocol standard for instant messaging, primarily for mobile phones, developed and defined by the GSM Association (GSMA). It is a replacement of SMS and MMS on cellular networks with more modern features including high resolution image and video support, typing indicators, file sharing, and improved group chat functionality.

and further down:

Interconnection and hubs

edit

Mobile network carriers/operators typically have two ways to deploy RCS services: either basing it on their own IMS infrastructure, or use a third-party hosted service.[61] Like SMS, RCS requires national and international interconnects to enable roaming. As with SMS, this will be accomplished with hubbing – where third-party providers complete agreements with individual operators to interwork their systems.

and while we are on it. The carrier bundle that is getting referred to all the time:

Carrier settings updates let your carrier provider updated carrier network and settings to improve cellular network connectivity and performance. Carrier settings updates can also add support for new features like 5G or Wi-Fi Calling.

so again it is Three who needs to make the call to implement it and not another company.

Hey @Florian thanks for your breakdown and I have checked this again for you and currently RCS is only available in selected locations from Apple and unfortunately there hasn't been an update on when they will be rolling this out further,
