Hi all,
First post but I wanted to alert you to a rather weird hacking attempt I suffered (and also complain about the appalling security Three seem to provide on your account and the inability of its call centre to help).
Yesterday evening I got a text from three care (legitimate number) notifying me that my eSim would soon be operational. Not having ordered an eSim, I contacted the help centre via the web. What followed was a bit like a Monty Python sketch, but eventually (after about an hour) they realised that it wasn't me that had ordered the eSIM (that they had given to someone obviously impersonating me) and suspended my account.
Around the same period my new and (to now) unspammed email address got hit with hundreds of emails all coming from websites that I had apparently 'subscribed to'. They were coming in quicker than I could block them and report them as phishing.
This morning I called into the three store in Grafton Street. Shout out to them for being brilliant. They gave me a new SIM (which cancelled the eSIM that someone had ordered) but were confused by what had happened.
I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this or has any ideas about what was being attempted. To me what I came away with was a real concern that it's too easy for people to get an eSIM on someone elses account, thereby giving them access to your phone number, which tends to be what's used for all banking verification calls and texts these days.
Hey @Tom_01021 , Welcome to the 3Community 🙂
Sorry to hear about your situation and if you would like me to check the account for you pop through to me here on PM along with your full name, mobile number, address and date of birth.
I can understand your hesitancy around the eSIM activation process after your experience however when an eSIM activation is being requested, personal details such as the name, number and address are required before the link will be sent out via email and I can assure you that we have multiple steps in place to block someone activating another users SIM but I'd be happy to look into your case for you.
