ESIM Rollout

Hi

Vodafone Ireland have recently started issuing ESims in ROI.  I think Three should follow suit soon, handsets such as iPhone only allow dual sim using one of these

@Oluwaseyi I have moved your post here to our Ideas Board.

This thread is related to eSim, and when we have any specifics on its release we will post it here.

Okay, thank you.

Has any defined timeframe appeared perhaps? It's been long enough.

Unfortunately, Three is still silent!

I explained earlier in this thread why I believe that Three Ireland's launch date for eSIM is closely related to Three UK's re-launch date for eSIM (after Three UK's original bungled launch in September 2020).

Since yesterday 30th January 2023, Three UK is now offering eSIM to new pay-monthly customers. Proceed to step 2 at https://www.three.co.uk/shop/phones to see this. There's no word yet on availability of eSIM to existing customers.

yes three should start issuing Esims to customers and they must work on connections signals. I lived in Donleckney where the reception is very low. Even the WhatsApp call get reconnected everytime i called my family in abroad.

Seems like three has a lot of work to do Bcos I don’t want to port my number to Vodafone Bcos of this and I’m already thinking about it.

I have an iPhone 11 and want to add a Three UK plan using an eSIM to my existing Three Ireland plan. Is this possible?

You don't add it to your Three Ireland plan --- its added to your phone and as long it's unlocked you should be able too

Three UK originally launched eSIM on 25th September 2020. Three UK quickly pulled the launch and, despite public promises of a relaunch in late 2020, by the end of 2021 and by the end of 2022, Three UK didn't relaunch eSIM until 30th January 2023.

Reports in August 2021 here and here explained that Three had signed an agreement with Amdocs for both Three UK and Three Ireland, which included eSIM functionality. We can therefore assume that Amdocs is a prerequisite for both Three Ireland and Three UK to (re-)launch eSIM.

Three UK relaunched eSIM on 30th January 2023, but only for new connections, not for existing connections. I spoke to Three UK's customer relations today, who explained that the reason for this is that eSIM is supported only on a new system (which I assume is Amdocs) on which new connections are being set up, and existing connections have not yet been migrated to the new system, which will take some time.

So we can assume that Three Ireland is similarly waiting for Amdocs to be implemented. Based on the rationale for Three UK to have initially offered eSIM only on new connections, I expect Three Ireland likewise to launch eSIM for new connections first followed by a migration of existing connections to Amdocs later.

Personally I'll be happy once Three UK gives me an eSIM, as I can then use my Three Ireland SIM as a physical SIM.
