Vodafone Ireland have recently started issuing ESims in ROI. I think Three should follow suit soon, handsets such as iPhone only allow dual sim using one of these
The Esim charge is absolutely shocking to say the least. So there is no real benefit by switching over to a esim at the moment. I have 2 phones and constantly switch between them, by moving to an esim i will be paying for phone swap soon enough. I've requested the QR code using the link you provided @Three_Niall but fortunately never heard back from them, so i will keep my sim card as is.
Will give Three sometime to see if there is going to be support for Apple Watch, if that doesn't happen will just have to port to Vodafone, they have a PAYG plan that is basically identical to Three's now (Vodafone also doesn't charge for new Esim and allow you to request new Esim from App/Web), so to me, it makes no different which network I am on as long as it works and threats the customers fairly.
Let's see who will support Apple Watch first, this will probably determine which telecom I will remain with.
Hi @Dalk, no, unfortunately... They only support Samsung Watches on Bill Pay for now, to be honest, knowing Vodafone they will take a long time before they offer OneNumber to PAYG phones. But the 20€ PAYG now has 5G and same add on as Three with the addition of Esim free of charge and easy to switch between phones.
To be honest, I do think Three will offer support to Apple Watch before Vodafone, but Vodafone has been surprisingly ahead when comes down to new technologies, so who knows!? We might be up for a surprise.
Agreed. The eSIM charge is farcical from the point of view of the customer.
There’s little to no incentive now (for me) to swap physical sim to eSIM. In fact in my use case I’d be penalised for doing so!
That’s a really disappointing aspect. Especially as eSIM would be automated via system with no physical postage involved, so a cost saving. How can Three endorse such a charge? It’s scandalous!
My new eSIM stopped working 5 days ago, less than 24 hours after I activated it. Three customer services have been absolutely useless, for example sending me an SMS to verify my identity even though they know I can't connect to a network, and telling me to visit a Three store, even though they know I'm not in Ireland. Only @Three_Niall has been helpful, as usual for Three's social media team. But my line remains disconnected and I have no service, unable to use mobile data, unable to make or receive calls, and unable to send or receive SMS. Therefore I tried requesting a new eSIM today, but that one says "Unable to activate eSIM".
The whole eSIM process is a shambles! They don’t even know themselves what’s going on. With Vodafone you can generate the QR code yourself when you log into your account, that’s generally how modern phone companies work. But with Three you have to call them, log tickets, and apparently to message privately here I need to like random posts and leave loads of comments to “unlock” the feature of private messages… I give up, Three you are useless! Vodafone here I come..
