Vodafone Ireland have recently started issuing ESims in ROI. I think Three should follow suit soon, handsets such as iPhone only allow dual sim using one of these
I have had multiple issues while roaming in the UK with my Three Ireland eSIM in my iPhone 15 Pro since I switched to an eSIM on 12/10/2023.
The symptoms are: 1. If I manually select Vodafone UK or EE UK with my Three Ireland eSIM, then I see "No Service", despite Three stating that roaming should be possible on all 4 UK networks. This was the case also with a Three Ireland nano-SIM for the many years that I have been a Three Ireland customer. 2. If I manually select O2 UK with my Three Ireland eSIM, then my iPhone mostly connects using only 3G in places with good 4G and 5G coverage, and often shows "No Service" for a few seconds or minutes at a time. 3. Since 18/11/2023, my iPhone with my Three Ireland eSIM often gives me no data connectivity while connected to 3 UK (despite a 4G or 5G indicator) or O2 UK (despite a 3G indicator). I can make and receive calls. 4. Since 01/12/2023, my iPhone with my Three Ireland eSIM does not connect to 3 UK, only to O2 UK (on 3G). 5. My girlfriend's iPhone 15 Pro with a Three Ireland eSIM roams on O2 UK using 4G and 5G in plenty of places where my iPhone roams only with 3G or shows "No Service", and roams on 3 UK without any problems with 4G and 5G. Her iPhone does not roam on Vodafone UK or EE UK. 6. My iPhone with an O2 UK prepaid nano-SIM connects to O2 UK using 4G in places where my Three Ireland eSIM roams on O2 UK only using 3G or shows "No Service". My O2 UK prepaid nano-SIM doesn't connect using 5G because O2 UK doesn't support 5G for its own prepaid SIMs. 7. My iPhone roams with other eSIMs and nano-SIMs on O2 UK using 4G and 5G. 8. When I report these issues to Three, a temporary fix cures issues 2 and/or 3 above, but not the other symptoms, and issues 2 and/or 3 soon return.
Further points are: 9. Symptoms 5 to 8 prove that this is not a hardware issue with my iPhone. Apple has carried out diagnostics and found no issue. 10. Three UK's network is congested, and therefore the ability to roam on other UK networks using 4G and 5G is very important. 11. I cannot reset network settings because I have over 250 saved wifi passwords in my iPhone, which would be deleted. Data loss cannot be a part of a solution to this problem. In any case, issue 8 proves that the issue is with Three, not with my iPhone.
I've reported these issues to Three many times, but they missed their own deadline for rectifying the issues, and instead created a new case number to give themselves more time and to hide the fact they had missed their own deadline. I'm really getting fed up with the poor service and lack of investigation. Instead of investigating the cause, Three tried shot-in-the-dark solutions, none of which work.
Hey @Shina_81823, can I confirm the plan that you are on and the plan that you are looking to set up an eSIM for your son so I can check this further for you?
Hey @Oluwaseyi, currently setting up a Prepay eSIM is unavailable online however if you are looking to switch to eSIM or set up a new Prepay account and use an eSIM this can be completed in-store.
Hi everyone, looking for some advice here. I forgot my physical sim card in Dublin as I got a new phone for Christmas and didn't swap the physical sim from my old phone into my new phone yet. (I know, odd. But I got carried away the festive period and didn't get around to swapping it into my new phone.)
So, I was visiting my dad up in Belfast today and staying for the next couple of days, and realised I had left my physical sim card home in Dublin as I had no service.
So, I got onto Three CS and explained my situation, the agent told me I could request an eSIM replacement which would be emailed to me shortly. After a couple of tries on the website submitting my request, my request got accepted and I got emailed my eSIM QR code.
The eSIM has been activated and so far seems to be working fine, but as I technically activated the eSIM abroad (Northern Ireland/Belfast/UK territory) and I am roaming (on the O2-UK network if it makes any difference) I thought I would receive the roaming sms as I am roaming? The one that goes "Welcome to the..... your allowances and rates are.... the emergency number in this country is....." etc etc. As I always would receive this SMS when going to a different country/territory, it includes handy information. I did not receive this SMS this time.
Is this because I activated the eSIM "abroad"? Has this happened to anyone else? Do eSIMs not get sent roaming information sms messages at all regardless of where they were activated? If anybody else activated their eSIM abroad, did you receive the roaming sms? If anybody here has an eSIM, do you receive roaming sms messages at all? Thank you! Or maybe some Three staff could shed some light on this? 😁
BTW, I'm on the legacy 3Prepay plan if it makes a difference.
@Rhys_88046I activated my eSIM in London, and I receive frequent roaming SMS price notifications, mostly after switching between UK networks, and always when first arriving in a new country. Please could you confirm whether you can manually roam on Vodafone UK and EE? My girlfriend and I can roam only on 3 UK and O2 UK, except one weekend when all four UK networks worked.
