Vodafone Ireland have recently started issuing ESims in ROI. I think Three should follow suit soon, handsets such as iPhone only allow dual sim using one of these
there is no chance three and vodafone would merge here even if they wanted to. the ccpc would definitely block the merger as that would leave only 2 telcos in ireland meaning the monopoly three/vodafone would hold together would be absurd. eir would be put out of business instantly.
i agree, Vodafone are a rip off and have zero customer service.
Three are good value and their customer service is top notch. Any merger, I would imagine, would result in consolidation of price plans and customer service, which would most likely lead to higher price plans and a reduction in quality of customer service.
Agreed, But Think Three vs Vodafone conversion should go to separate “Thread”. More importantly if eSim situation not sorted, Three will lose too many customers.
So we are now into August and still no eSim. As an ex-pat I’ve been using 3 on pay as you go for years when I come back to visit. Next trip will be in Oct and this time my US purchased iPhone doesn’t have a physical SIM card slot. I guess I shouldn’t raise my hopes that eSim will be avail by then? Please prove me wrong!
I understand that Three UK moved pay-monthly contract customers to the new system on Sunday 6th August 2023, which supports eSIM. Prepaid customers (like me) have not yet been migrated. Based on links I provided above much earlier in this thread, I believe that Three Ireland and Three UK have the same dependencies with regard to eSIM. I want to use my Irish and UK numbers on my iPhone simultaneously. As long as one or the other starts supporting eSIM, I'll be happy.
