Vodafone Ireland have recently started issuing ESims in ROI. I think Three should follow suit soon, handsets such as iPhone only allow dual sim using one of these
How easy is to switch phones with the eSIM? Like if I want to swap my iPhone for a Galaxy phone? I know Vodafone allow you to do it via app or web, but for the life of me I can’t find anything on how this works for Three. Has anyone tried yet?
Going by my experience, you’ll have to go in store to do it unfortunately. It’s a quick process but a bit of a joke that you can’t do it over the phone or online.
@Geo_dude I've just tried to transfer multiple eSIMs from my iPhone 2020 SE2 to my iPhone 15 Pro.
With Vodafone UK, you just delete the eSIM, and Vodafone automatically sends you a new eSIM immediately, even on PAYG for which Vodafone no longer issues eSIMs.
Both iPhones indicated that my EE UK eSIM could be automatically transferred from the old iPhone to the new one, but it didn't work, so I had to request a new eSIM from EE UK. They waived the charge.
MTX Connect (Luxembourg) doesn't support transferring an eSIM at all, and you have to buy a new one for €1.
Carriers really need to sort this out if Apple wants to roll out eSIM-only iPhones worldwide. At present, it's a mess and unreliable.
I have an eSIM from Vodafone (Ireland). Was on my iPhone. I removed it, then opened the Vodafone website, and scanned the QR code with my Samsung, so now active on the Samsung. It’s as easy as that.
It’s my understanding that Comreg envisaged this level of interoperability between Irish operators. Let’s hope that happens.
I just left the country for a few months on Monday. So annoying that I have to go to a physical store instead of just being able to scan a qr code online to get eSIM
I think it’s only a mess with three and Vodafone. I’ve been using eSIM since 14ProMax in the US. The eSIM is easy to get with AT&T and transferring to a new phone is super easy. I can’t believe some carriers in Europe charge for eSIMs!
The rollout with three hasn’t been great. I switched to Vodafone Ireland over a week ago and installed the eSIM without any issues. Last night tried to do husbands and that was a nightmare and didn’t work. Will have to go into a Vodafone or three shop and get his sorted on Saturday.
Thanks for the replies, so for now, there is very little benefit to change into an Esim, unless you actually need to have more than one simcard on your phone, there is no point. I have 2 phones, an Android and Iphone, every now and then i switch between them, and i dont want to go into a store every time. Also, no support for Apple Watch, this is most disappointing part for, I was really hoping they would launch that function.
If the information the other member got from instore is true, we are looking at another 2y before they actually support smartwatch.
@Three_Stacey can you give us some details on the topics above please? Some clarity would benefit everyone.
@Geo_dude Hey, I read your comment and when I saw the part you said if what the other member said was true about what I was told in store for Apple Watch being 2025. I was like is it my comment he is referring too and then I was like please don’t tell me I accidentally put the wrong year down. So I checked… and I did 🙈
I am so sorry guys for the typo. I meant 2024 and I have now corrected it. He said early 2024 🙈
